The New Moon on April 19th or April 20th, depending on where you are, is a rare hybrid Solar Eclipse. Hybrid Eclipses are special Eclipses, which hold elements of Total and Annular Eclipses depending on where you are located. This is the first eclipse of the year and the first one in Aries after almost a decade. We are entering Eclipse Season with the 2nd Aries New Moon in a row. It will be followed by Mercury stationing Retrograde, on April 21st, 2023.
Tonight, the beginning of a new chapter in our lives will be marked. This chapter will be full of hunger and inspire us to get to charge ahead like a Ram, the symbol of Aries.
We'll be saying goodbye to fiery Aries Season and hello to a usually more stable period as the Sun transitions from a fire sign to an Earth sign. A few hours after the Eclipse, the Sun enters Taurus on April 20th, at 4:14 am est., which marks the start of Taurus Season.
what is a solar eclipse?
Eclipses are said to have profound impacts and create significant changes in our lives. They open portals to the most transformative and intense times of the year.
A New Moon is where the Sun is conjunct with the Moon, which means it passes between the Earth and the Sun. The New Moon phase represents renewal and a new cycle. Its refreshing energy balances our emotions and puts us back in an energized state to take initiative and plan for the future.
A Solar Eclipse is a New Moon: the Sun and Moon are conjunct. The difference is that the Moon darkens the Sun as it passes between the Earth and the Sun, making it more powerful. The Sun and Moon also form a conjunction in a tight alignment with the Lunar Nodes. Lunar Nodes are opposing signs in astrology, associated with destiny, karma, and evolution. The Eclipse is awakening a part of ourselves that needs to be improved, taken care of, and focused on.
There are three main types of Solar Eclipses; Partial, Total, and Annular Solar Eclipse. However, there is a fourth type that occurs only a few times per century; a Hybrid Solar Eclipse. This is the rarest, most interesting, and globally most spectacular type of Solar Eclipse. This is a Hybrid between an Annular Eclipse, where you can see a ring of fire around the Sun, and a Total Eclipse, where the sun is completely blocked. Hybrid Eclipses are extremely rare. They can indicate a shift between two worlds.
This particular Hybrid Solar Eclipse can be seen as Total or Annular in different places and times around the world.
The effects of a Solar Eclipse last for six months, while the effects of a New Moon last for four weeks.
what to expect?
Think of the relationship between this second Aries New Moon in a row and the first one, which took place on March 21st. (For me, personally, an important event included the opening of a new bar in Fort Lauderdale, FL called The Palm Room.) The first one may have unlocked the door to the new path in your life, but this one is opening it.
Aries is a fire cardinal sign. People born under this sign and the energy it inspires in us are courageousness, passion, and leadership. During Solar Eclipses in Aries, we can expect more competitiveness, impatience, and selfishness. We can expect to feel more energy, strength, motivation, a stronger desire for power, and to evolve by accepting that some things are out of our control. There may be a significant transformation possible or a metaphorical rebirth, in which you're free from pain and suffering.
There may be something "eclipsed" by your new beginning. The Sun illuminates the Moon when it is full, representing the subconscious becoming conscious, secrets being revealed, and things previously hidden coming into light. So, something major may be hidden as the Moon passes in between the Sun and Earth and, metaphorically, something major may be hidden as we jump into a new chapter of our life.
things to do during this solar eclipse
Don't charge your crystals. During eclipses, the energy is especially intense and chaotic. However, I wouldn't be a Gemini or an eclectic witch, if I didn't fully support your decision to charge your crystals, if that works for you. Everyone's magic is not the same, which makes you even more magical.
Reflect on the past.

Get a journal. Keep a journal tracking the upcoming Aries-Libra Eclipse series. There will be six eclipses in this series, landing on April 20, 2023; October 14, 2023; March 25, 2024; April 8, 2024; October 2, 2024; and March 29, 2025, which means the broader story will unfold gradually over the next few years. Hindsight is 20/20. Writing down the who, what, when, where, and why of your experiences at these times will help you be able to reflect on where you've been to navigate where you are going. It's a good idea to track events based on astrological events in general.
Don't perform Manifesting or New Moon Rituals. It's best to relax and allow the bigger picture to be shown before performing any manifestation rituals. Eclipses are very powerful. Trying to manifest a text back from a crush is a waste of this energy, which is so closely tied to your destiny.
