On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday and the first holiday offering an African American, which is on the Monday nearest his birthday, January 15th, 1929.

The first Full Moon of 2022 is in Cancer, where the moon feels the most at home. Most zodiac signs have a ruling planet, except for Leo, who is ruled by the sun, and Cancer, who is ruled by the moon.

This water sign, symbolized by the crab, is a nurturer, family and home oriented, and is a strong, emotional healer. Like a crab, they have a strong exterior to protect themselves and may seem cold or distant at first. However, when you get to know them you’ll find their incredibly gentle nature, genuine compassion, and mystical capabilities. They are highly intuitive with natural psychic abilities. They’re highly sensitive to their environments, effortlessly picking up the energies in a room. It should come as no surprise they are extremely self-protected.

Domestically oriented, Cancers love making their home a cozy, safe space to spend lots of time in. If their home life is disrupted, they get a bitty “crabby”. They care very deeply about their families and naturally take on caregiver roles. Even with having the best of intentions, they have to be careful not to cross the line between attentive nurturing and controlling behavior.

Cancers are loyal, committed, emotionally deep lovers and friends. They also rule the stomach, who are excellent hosts and love entertaining with comfort food, a home-cooked meal, and providing a free-flowing, comfortable, environment. They are usually the ones to make it too. Most witchy Cancers are Kitchen Witches and are naturally talented at their craft.

The Full Moon peaks on January 17th/ 18th, but the 4 days leading up to it give us a taste of what’s to come. Deep emotions have been surfacing. You’ll need to deal with them head on, by communicating your thoughts, boundaries, and feelings. However, Mercury stationed Retrograde on January 14th, which means all communication will be easily misinterpreted and you’ll need plenty of patience, as well as pausing before speaking.

Full Moon’s ask us to release and let go of people, places, things, phases, or habits. However, this one is more so telling us to let go than asking. It’s not making us release things to hurt us, it’s doing quite the opposite.

During Full Moon’s, our feelings are intensified. Because this energy is influenced by Pluto, the planet of power, we may feel intensely suffocated or powerless in certain areas of our lives. As Pluto opposes the moon, a heaviness in the air is pulling our attention to where we feel most powerful and the most powerless. We will fully see where we are being disempowered and the effect it is having on us. Do not feel discouraged or hopeless, this is an opportunity to empower ourselves.

Pluto is also the planet of sex, rebirth, jealousy, mysteriousness, and secrets. There may be compulsive behavior, extreme emotional reactions, jealousy, and relationship drama.

The focus of this Full Moon is on self-care and facing heavy, deep buried emotions. Dedicate yourself to yourself. Dedicate yourself to your home, your dreams, your health, and you.

Use this energy to say Goodbye to anything negatively influencing you and you will be ready to easily flow through 2022 with resilience, courage, passion, a more awakened mind, and enlightenment.
